1. Make sure that you have had your oral exam from the dentist.
Over the counter trays are made for the masses. They don't fit everyone the same. 2. Check the tray for proper fit. Trim with scissors if necessary.
3. Don't over fill the tray. You don't need to fill it up. Place the tooth whitening gel against the front of the tray where your front teeth will be and not on the bottom of the tray. You will want the tooth whitening gel to be against the front of your teeth.
4. Follow the manufacturers instructions exactly.
5. Use your finger to wipe excess from the top of the tray after application. Make sure the top of your teeth are covered with the gel. You don't want a stripe across the top of your smile just because the tray did not fit quite right.
6. Exposed root and dental work will not whiten.
7. It is normal to have some tooth sensitivity with tooth whitening procedures. You may have to space out your tooth whitening until your teeth get used to the procedure.
8. Stock trays are thicker and are sometimes uncomfortable. The boil and bite trays work the best. These are the ones you have to heat up and form around your teeth for the best fit. It is important to use equal pressure across the whole tray for the best fit across your teeth.
9. If you have any type of jaw disorder then you should not use trays except as your doctor recommends.
